I've made a list of items women have eliminated from their wardrobes.

parasols - these kept the sun from your face
fans - these kept you cool
hats - these kept you cool in the summer and warm in the winter
gloves - these kept you from getting germs
over shoe boots - these protected your shoes and kept your feet warm
head scarfs - these kept your hair from getting blown in the wind and were a beautiful accessory
corset/girdle/garter belt - these held up a woman's stockings as well as nipped in the middle
aprons - these protected the clothes when working in the kitchen
handkerchiefs
shawls
slips
pantie hose

There isn't much left.
