Can't you picture them marching round and round the mountain and God has to tell them to stop. You see, they had not obeyed God and God stopped listening to them so they had no direction. They didn't know where to go. They went around in circles.

I have found three funny places in the Bible. At least I think they are funny.

(1) The people were waiting for Moses to come down out of the mount and they said in Exodus 32

3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.

Now this is the funny part.

Can you imagine? Aaron is Moses older brother, and they are both old men. Aaron is acting like a child. He threw the gold in and out came this calf. How funny!

Cross Stitch Bears

I made these cross stitch bears for my girls. I gave my daughter Christine the one cuddled up in a quilt. I knew she would like to do that. I gave my daughter Sharon the one at the fence because she loves her back yard. I gave our dear friend (she's like one of the familiy) Michelle the one with the flowers and big hat because she loves to garden and I think she would look great in the hat.

Miss Potter

I've just watched the movie "Miss Potter" that I borrowed from the library. It is the story of Beatrix Potter, who wrote "Peter Rabbit". I rarely buy movies, but I will buy this one. It is such a beautiful and well done movie. The animation is adorable. The scenery is breathtaking. If you can borrow or buy the movie, I'm sure you will like it, too.

Cheerleader purses

These are the cheerleader purses I made for my daughter Chris' cheerleading squad. She asked me to make them. She is their coach and she really loves her girls, so I was happy to make them for her. I don't think they turned out as well as I wanted, but I hope they like them.

Digital Cameras

Aren't digital cameras great! You can take hundreds of pictures and develop only the ones you want. Then you can delete the ones you don't want. Fantastic! I wish my life was like that. I wish I could delete a lot of the things I've said and done. I would go back over my life bit by bit---oh, I shouldn't have said that - delete, I shouldn't have done that - delete. Delete, delete, delete,...... So many dumb, stupid things, ugh, delete them all. I wonder what my life would be like if I had not said or done those things in the first place. I'm just human after all. I've made a lot of mistakes. I'm not perfect. I am so looking forward to going to heaven so that all those dumb, stupid things will be erased. I certainly don't want to remember them for all eternity. Jesus took all my sins away so that I could go to heaven. The biggest mistake would have been to reject Jesus' gift of salvation. Thank you, Jesus.

Safe at home

My husband's son, who is in the Navy, is now home in the States for good. My son'-in-law's brother, who is in the Army Reserves, is in the States for good. I thank God that they came back safe and sound from serving our country over seas. My heart goes out to all those who have been injured, and to those families who have lost a loved one. I am reminded also that my brother, who was in the Army, came back from serving in Vietnam safe and sound.

I can hardly believe it, but my husbands daughter, Bernice, just found out she passed the Ohio Bar exam. Of course, we knew she would. This girl is expert at studying. Oh, I forgot to say, she is 24 years old! I watched her grow up. She is also an excellent swimmer. I am very proud of her. She worked hard to get where she is.

I am recommending a very funny movie. It's called "Unfaithfully Yours". 1948. Rex Harrison is hilarious. The funniest scene is towards the end. Rex Harrison plays a conductor, so there is a lot of wonderful music to listen to. I borrowed it from the library.

Sad - Comfort

Lately I have been sad. Not really depressed, but sad. Sad for my children and grandchildren. Sad for others. Sad for myself. Some things I can talk about with others, and some things I can't because they are too personal. I am reading a book called "Queen of the Castle" by Lynn Bowen Walker. She has a wonderful chapter on prayer. I will quote a little from it.

"I don't know what's wrong," I said to my husband recently as I worked in the kitchen. "I'm feeling kind of blue." "That's because you're mourning," he answered. He's right. Friends and family have experienced more than their share of troubles lately, and it takes its toll. My husband has been studying the Beatitudes in his Bible study group, the "blessed are the..."s found in Matthew 5:3-11. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted," says Jesus in Matthew 5:4. I need to recognize my mourning. I need to see my sadness for what it is: a valid, hurting response to pain experienced by people I love. And I need to bring my mourning to the God of comfort, so He can wrap His loving arms around me as I turn to Him in prayer.

This is why we should go to God first. We should go to God for comfort, healing, strength, wisdom, and all the rest. Wow, do we need those things in this world we live in!

Happiness

There is a story about two men who encounter each other walking along a country road. One of them, a wealthy nobleman, has a bag slung over his shoulder and dejected expression on his face. The second man, a beggar, asks him why he’s so depressed. “I’m looking for happiness,” says the nobleman. “I’ve tried everything—I’ve had wealth, power, position, education, lots of women, but I’m still, like, totally angst-ridden. So the other day I finally threw some stuff in a bag and set out to find myself.”
“Ah.” says the beggar. “I see.” Then, without warning, he grabs the nobleman’s bag and rushes off into the forest. He cuts through the rugged terrain until he’s some distance ahead of his distraught victim. Then, when he sees the nobleman coming, he leaves the bag in the center of the road and hides behind a rock to watch.
Naturally, when the rich man sees his bag, complete with everything he was carrying when he lost it, he goes nuts with joy—jumping around, singing hallelujah, all that. The beggar, still hiding behind his rock, yells, “Strange, what it takes for some people to find happiness.”

Thinking Spring

Keyboard

This is a picture of the keyboard my husband bought for me last summer. I used to have a Hammond organ. I loved playing it. I havent played this keyboard for awhile, because my hands hurt and I have trouble forming the correct chords. Even so, I must get back into playing it even if I just keep playing the same easy songs over and over. Making music makes me feel good.

Cross Stitch

I have been doing a lot of cross stitch lately. I finally finished my little Christmas ornaments. Now I can finish some other projects.

Unusual sighting

Today something very unusual happened. First I saw a lot of robins, about 8 or 10. Then they flew away and two blue jays came down. Then I saw the squirrel running all over and up into the trees. In my backyard I frequently see deer and sometimes rabbits but I rarely see squirrels. What a treat for me!

Spring

I am so ready for spring. Winter hasn't been that long, but I'm still tired of it. Easter is 41 days away. I love Easter eggs, daffodils, birds singing waking me up at 4:00 in the morning, milder temperatures, the excitement of new life. Part of me dies in the winter, and comes alive again in spring. My plan this year is to go for walks again in the park. I pray that my legs stop giving me problems and allow me to do that.

Repent

After reading the Bible all the way through, I believe the key word is repent. Pharaoh didn't repent, even after all those plagues including the death of his son. I think Jesus would have forgiven Judas if he had repented. In the book of Revelation, during the tribulation, people will not repent and turn to God.

Jesus said: "... except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." Luke 13:3

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
Acts 3:19-21

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
Eph. 2:4-6

Repent, trust Christ, and be saved!

Christmas rules

1. Remember Jesus is the reason for the season. Don't leave him out. It's His birthday. Don't forget to read the Christmas story in your Bible. Put some money in the Salvation Army kettle. It's the least you can do.

2. Don't spend too much. An inexpensive gift given with thoughtfulness and love is more valuable. Remember if you charge it you have to pay it back.

3. Don't wear yourself out doing too much.

4. Don't expect too much.

5. After Christmas, write down how you want next Christmas to be, and plan ahead.

First Class

I am so proud of my step son Paul jr. After only 6 years in the Navy, he has made First Class Petty Officer! He will be stationed in Norfolk, Va.

My personal Christian testimony

I thought it was time to give you the story of how I was saved. I grew up as a Catholic. I was baptized in Holy Ghost Byzantine Church. At the age of eight my family moved and joined a Roman Catholic church. There I made my First Communion. I did not need to be confirmed because in the Byzantine church you are confirmed at the same time you are baptized. I loved being Catholic, of course I didn't know anything else. I loved the church, the prayers, the Mass. I loved God. I spent my little allowance on religious children's books that I read. I didn't need to be reminded to say my prayers.
As I grew, I started questioning the church, about the pope being the leader of the church because he was just a man, and about saying your sins to the priest, and other things. So I quit the church. I was married in the United Church of Christ, and I liked it. But, I started having anxiety attacks about dying and going to hell. I knew I was not good enough to go to heaven, and I did not want to go to hell where Hitler and other bad people were. I was so afraid to go to sleep, I might die in my sleep. I had attacks anytime during the day. It was bad and I didn't tell anyone.
God put into my hands just the right book for me. It was a book called "Are you saved? If not, why not?" The question was a good one. The answer: "No, I am not saved, but why not?" I knew about Jesus, that He died a long time ago, but I didn't know that He died for me so I could go to heaven to be with God. He already died for me! He took away all my sins. Well, the Holy Spirit came into my soul and turned on the light, and I understood, and I got saved that very moment. You see, I couldn't save myself. I loved God but I wasn't saved. I needed it to be personal. That's what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus. Now, I can say "Yes, I am saved, because Jesus saved me." I know I will go to heaven to be with God, and Jesus, and all the other believers. If you are not saved, why not? Let the Holy Spirit turn on the light and believe that Jesus died for you, personally.

Restaurants

I always knew there was a difference between bars and restaurants. Bars serve alcohol with food on the side. Restaurants serve food with alcohol on the side. I am reading J. Vernon McGee's books "Thru the Bible". He gives an illustration about this. He said once he drove all over the city for a restaurant that didn't serve beer, because his evangelist companion wanted one. They finally found one and the evangelist got sick on the food. Nowadays, it's really hard to find a good restaurant that doesn't serve alcohol. He says, "Separation from the world does not mean that you cannot go into a restaurant that serves liquor." I agree with him. I think, what will people say if they see me coming out of the restaurant? "She had a meal." What will they say if they see you coming out of a bar? Probably, that you were drinking alcohol because people go into bars to drink alcohol. That's the difference. I don't drink and I never have. I used to go into bars with friends, but I always felt very uncomfortable. I don't belong there. I believe the Lord convicted me about that. It was wrong for me to be there.

First Snow

Well, tonight was our first snow of the season. It came down heavy at times. I was glad I didn't have to be out. I don't like to drive in it, especially when I don't have a good car to drive. The car I drive is not a good car for snow or ice. The snow is covering the ground. Some people get to move away for the winter. Sometimes I envy them. It's going to be a long winter. :(

Love Me or Leave Me

I just watched the movie Love Me or Leave Me with Doris Day. She played the famous 20's singer Ruth Etting. The dvd also has two short movies R. E. was in. Ruth Etting sang nothing like Doris Day, but she did have a wonderful, sweet and bird like voice.

Laura Ingalls Wilder

I read a wonderful story about Laura Ingalls Wilder in an old copy of Ideals magazine. I loved her books and of course the tv series, Little House on the Prairie. I will give you one of the paragraphs from this article.

Late in life Wilder wrote a letter about how much the world had changed since her childhood. But she saw some things as constants. Her words describe in perfect simplicity the philosophy that lay behind each and every one of her books: "The real things haven't changed," she wrote. "It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with the simple pleasures and to be cheerful and to have courage when things go wrong." These plain and truthful words embody the spirit of Wilder's writing, certainly, but they are testaments to something far greater--the spirit of the American pioneer. Wilder's philosophy, after all, was not unique or of her own invention. What makes her books so very compelling is not that they are the story of one family, but that they tell the story of countless nameless, faceless pioneer families who lived and died without notice, but whose courage and perseverance opened the American West and shaped our nation.

Alcohol

I want to know why the tv newcasts keep pushing alcoholic drinking on us. Practically every day they are telling us how good alcohol is. Most of the time they tell us women to drink, today they told men to drink. Apparently there is a minor health benefit, but then they have to qualify it by saying to drink moderately, and don't smoke and keep your weight normal and eat a healthy diet and get exercise along with the moderate drinking to get the benefits. What is moderate drinking? How many people stop after one drink? How many drinkers can say they follow all the other recomendations for good health? I am a non drinker and I am not going to start drinking now just because the news media can't think of anything else to tell us. I think they are justifing their compulsive habit. I also know that alcohol is addictive and potentially very harmful to the person drinking and to anyone who is around them. I won't go into drunk driving or family abuse. I'll say it again, How many people can quit after one drink?

A Loving Heart

In Margaret Walker's novel Jubilee, Vyry, the mother, speaks of her commitment to love.
"Keeping hatred inside makes you git mean and evil inside. We supposen to love everybody like God loves us.
"And when you forgives you feels sorry for the one what hurt you, you returns love for hate, and good for evil. And that stretches your heart and makes you bigger inside with a bigger heart so's you can love everybody. You can lick the world with a loving heart."

Google Earth

If you haven't tried Google Earth yet, you are really missing something! I flew over my house this afternoon, then on to Disneyworld, and then over to California, and over the Pacific to China. You can go anywhere! You can see buildings, cars on the roads and people walking. Fantastic. Yesterday, I flew over Niagara Falls. This is so fun. I can't believe it. Amazing. I knew about it but I never used it until now. Just think, while I am walking down the street, I could be having my picture taken by a satelite and shown all over the world. You can also go to Yahoo satelite.

Build-a-Bear Rosie

This is a picture of the Build-a-Bear that my daughters Christine, Sharon, and Michelle bought for me for Mothers Day this year. Actually I picked it out. At first when they asked me if I wanted one I was undecided. Then I saw the pink poodle in the online store. I knew I would love to have that one. So her name is Rosie and the little companion is Brigitte a Beanie Baby I bought years ago and put away (I forgot I had it.)I was so surprised at how much they look alike. The Build-a-Bear company have since changed the looks of the pink poodle and I don't like the new one.
This is the poem that comes with the Beanie Baby.

A girl must always look her best
You can tell by how she's dressed
Pretty bows, pink poofy hair
Brigitte is full of charm and flair!

And that goes for Rosie, too! I have the most wonderful, loving daughters. Thank you.

Birthday Parties

Last week we got a call from my husband Paul's mother. She invited us over on Fri. It was to be her birthday, her 79th. We went and all her kids and some friends were there (one of her daughters lives in Cal.) We had a great time. She planned the party, prepared the food, and baked the cake. I was reminded of something that happened a long time ago. When my kids were little, of course, I had birthday parties for them. One day as my birthday was approaching, my (former) mother-in-law, asked me if I was planning to have a party for myself. I thought it was a silly idea, to have a party for yourself! But, now I understand. When you are young your kids are with you all the time. But, when they grow up you need to be with them. Planning your own party is a way to get your family together. It also made me think that most everyone likes to have a birthday party! I think next year I will plan a party for myself.

Wash Day

If you are one who dislikes doing laundry, here's how the Amish women do it. (all in one day)

1. Start a fire in the wood burning stove.
2. Fill tubs with water and put on the stove to heat.
3. Sort clothes according to how dirty they are. Wash loads in the same water saving the dirtiest clothes for last.
4. Soak dirty work clothes in a tub.
5. Soak diapers in a tub of bleach water.
6. Fill the wringer washer with water and soap.
7. Put the clothes in the washer. The washer is powered by a gasoline engine.
8. Put the clothes through the wringer into a tub of rinse water. Use a plunger to push clothes around.
9. Put clothes through the wringer again.
10. Hang clothes to dry.
11. Gather clothes off the line.
12. Press, fold and put away.

At the end of the day, they thank God "for every sock, every shirt, and every diaper, because they tell the tale of a healthy, growing family."

Amish Country

Today my husband Paul took me for a drive to Amish country. The sky was blue, the sun was hot, the trees and flowers were beautiful. I read somewhere that the Amish don't persue happiness. They persue simplicity and Godliness. Whenever I go there I try to bring home Amish magazines. I said if I ever found a good recipe I would give it to you. Well, here it is. It is from a magazine called The Vendor.

Animal Crossing

My daughters Christine and Sharon introduced me to Animal Crossing. It is a Nintendo game cube game. When I first saw it, I thought it was silly and childish. Then I started playing it and now I am hooked. It is a game that has no end! You just go along day by day doing things (and there are a lot of things to do). Chris also introduced me to adventure games on the pc. I played C.S.I. and Sherlock Holmes, and Nancy Drew. Those games have ends. Now, she got me into Big Fish online games.

I want to thank my daughter Sharon for making this blog so beautiful. I know she had fun doing it. She is my third child. They say the average family has 2 1/2 children. I am glad I had a whole child instead of only 1/2. The flag is Ohio, which is unique because it is the only flag in the union with a pennant shape. A lot of people like to put recipes in their blog. If I come across good one, I'll include it here.

Fall Colors

While driving yesterday I couldn't help noticing the fall colors. This is not my favorite time of year, spring is. But, right now the colors are mixed with the green. It is so pretty, and, I noticed the fall flowers, too. I hope we all can appreciate the colors while we have them.

Forever and a Day

I am recommending a movie today called "Forever and a Day" which I borrowed from the library. It was made in 1943 and takes place initially in war torn England. It's the story of an old house and all the people who lived in it since it was built. There is a huge cast of well-known actors who donated their pay for the war effort. There are a few funny moments which I would like to relate to you. The first was a conversation between two women. The first lady says, "My husband and I go to the air raid shelter every evening. It's such a nuisance." And the second lady says, "Before the war, my husband never took me anywhere." Then later in the film the old gentleman is pacing the floor awaiting the birth of his grandchild. He says, "Why do women have to have babies? Why can't they lay eggs like penguins?" LOL, hee, hee, hee, rotfl! Well, I thought it was funny. Anyway, I think you will enjoy this movie, too.

Mom

My mother died in 2001. For some reason I never received a death certificate. I asked my brother for one and I got it today. I didn't know that reading it would make me cry. It's hard to believe she is gone, because she lived so far away. I didn't see her very often, but just knowing she is there and that I could visit her was a comfort. I can't talk to her any more, I can't hear her laugh any more, I can't ask her questions, any more. I wish people didn't get old, and I wish people didn't die. I know I'm going to heaven when I die, because I trusted Jesus. I hope I see my mother and dad there. She passed away in Aug. of 2001. It was right before the 9/11 attack. I was very stressed out after the attack, like a lot of people. I knew a lot of people lost someone but I wanted to shout "I lost someone, too".

Fall

Well, it's time to bring out the fall clothes: the turtlenecks, the sweaters, etc. In a way it's fun to wear clothes you haven't seen for months. My apartment doesn't have heat yet, so we have to use small electric heaters. When the regular heater is on it gets too warm. We can't adjust the temp. We do that by opening the windows. I think I need to find some really warm socks, not too tight or too bulky.

I have been blessed this summer, Paul bought me a Casio music keyboard, and we got the internet at home. This winter will be a little less boring.
